Glossary of Terms

Abbreviated Address - A two digit numeric code that represents one complete address that ranges from 00-99. (Speed dialing).
Acceptance - Acknowledgement from the system that message has been accepted.
Access Mode - The method by which the customer accesses the post office. See also server access mode and direct access mode.
Accoustic Coupler - Device on DDD terminal, which allows phone conversation - external modem.
Addressing - Refers to the method you use to identify each recipient of your fax broadcast. The addressing information is obtained from the Attention field data and printed on the cover page or strip header of the received fax.
Agents - Programs responsible for message transfer and delivery throughout the system. See also Message Transfer Agent (MTA) and Post Office Agent (POA).
Alias - A substitute name assigned to a name from a e-mail system, because the original name is too long, contains illegal characters, or duplicates an existing name.
ALLPBX - A dialer program that relies on the ANI programmed into the dialer to identify the ANI. It routes all long distance and international calls to EasyLink network.
ALL800 - A dialer program that uses ANI identification to identify the ANI and routes all long distance and international calls to EasyLink network.
Alternate Address - We can pre-store alt addresses on Redilist or abbr. addr's. Customer can specify at input by using / ALT command. EasyLink will deliver to another address if primary address is busy.
Alternate Delivery - Delivery to a destination other than destination specified.
ANI - The number that we will bill the call to.
ANI Identification - Similar to Caller ID but for toll- free numbers. Used in some dialer programs to determine who is sending the transaction (and therefore who to bill).
Archive Set - A group of documents in an archive directory.
Answerback - Printed identification of a Telex I, Telex II or automatic DDD.
Assured On Demand - Dialing 01 instead of 011 or 0+NPA instead of 1+NPA to use assured service on a line that is provisioned for real time service.
Assured Service - Using this service the customer's faxes will first be received by EasyLink fax modems and then faxed out to the distant end.
Auto-Answer Terminal-Automatic DDD - DDD terminal having a dedicated telephone number automatically answered by the equipment.
Auto Cancellation - Rejected message automatically cancels back to sender.
Auto Cancel Rejects - Customer 's delivery failure will automatically cancel back to sender. If changed to "Intercept will handle rejects - Y", then delivery failures will be sent to intercept queue for manual handling.
Automatic Notification of Delivery - This applies to a specific user's outbound traffic. Customer will automatically receive a notification of delivery on TLX, TWX, ITX, FAX and DDD traffic.

B
Barrow - The name of the computer that hosts IDR programming.
Batch - Command entered to eliminate computer prompts (GA) when entering multiple messages.
Batched Transmissions: (Works w/Simultaneous Delivery) DDD -RECEIVE (Database driven) Multiple messages can be sent to one location without breaking the connection and redialing for each message. Default is batched. Non-batched messages will hang-up after each message and redial delivering them one at a time on separate connections. This is changed in SFS database ELN panel. DDD - SEND (Customer driven) Customer can send multiple messages to multiple destinations on one EasyLink connection by using /BATCH command, separating each message with 4 1's and ending last message w/4 M's. 110 300 1200 /9600 EDI
BAUD - Data transmission speed.
BC - A dialer program that uses ANI identification to identify the ANI and routes only EZ-List Broadcast requests to EasyLink network.
BCPBX - A dialer program that relies on the ANI programmed into the dialer to identify the ANI. It routes only EZ-List Broadcast requests to EasyLink network.
Billing Account Number - AMS (billing) number has 3 alpha and 6 numeric characters - VAT123456.
Binary File Transfer - Customer sends computer spreadsheets, graphics, database files and application programs through EasyLink using / FAST command. No database entry is needed - strictly Customer driven. To receive binary files, Customer needs mailbox and X.PC software.
Blocked Numbers - Are the fax destinations that are to be removed automatically from your broadcast lists whenever you submit the lists or run the Number Blocking process. These numbers are also referred to as the "do not send", "purged numbers", or "excluded" list. To comply with a recipient's request to be removed from future broadcasts or if you have determined that a particular fax number is invalid, you simply enter the destination number in the Blocked Numbers List.
Broadcasting - Is the process of distributing information to a group. The EasyLink Multicast Messaging Service sends your fax to any number of destinations worldwide.
Brown - An outbound schedule of 4 tries in 46 minutes (default for IDRs and VIVEs)
Bulletin Board - Companies can store private or public files .

C
Cancel Full Text - A copy of the original message is attached to the cancellation notice when the message fails. This is directed to the RETURN ELN on the Originator panel.
Centrex - Very similar to a PBX, but usually the ANI stays constant.
Chron File - A file that contains a listing of messages sent & retrieved from a mailbox put in chronological order that spans 3 - sometimes more days. Only available to Customer s that have a mailbox in their routing sequence. Customer accesses by performing / SCAN CHRON at the PTS. He can then read specific messages by typing READ 1 (or the specific number(s) of the messages he would like to view.)
CI - Conversation Inhibited.
CI Telex - A conversation inhibited dial number associated with EasyLink. Messages sent to CI dial number is forwarded to an ELN for final delivery.
CI Answerback - Printed identification of a CI Telex having a minimum of 5 and maximum of 14 characters - Harrison MPL.
CI Transfer - A conversation of an existing Western Union telex I or telex II dial number to EasyLink.
Customer - A program run by the end user.
Customer Return Address - When Customer s send paper- based mail messages (such as mgm, pls, etc
) the return address that is located in the upper left hand of the envelope is automatically taken from the originator panel fields of Firm Name, Street, City, State and Zip. Should the Customer wish to override this, they can use the following format.

Customer Summary Report - Provides a daily summary of a user's activity that is sent to them at 3:00 a.m. the next morning. They can request three different types of reports: (1) Message sent by user. (2) Messages Received by a user or (3) Messages pulled from mailbox by a specific user.
Collect ELN - Messages sent to a CI pointed to an ELN flagged COLLECT or to the ELN Itself will be paid for by the Receiver.
Connector - Dialers are frequently referred to as "connectors".
Control Character Allowance - For those that have mailbox routings, an entry of "C" in SFS on the routing panel (vs. M) will allow that receiver to be able to receive control characters that are embedded in the text of messages.
Control Function - Specified response affecting message input and output.
Coupler - A small device containing two jacks sometimes used to hook up a connector when the customer has unusual wiring. One is generally shipped with every dialer.
Copy ELN - Whenever a user sends a message, a copy of this message will bet sent to an ELN contained in the COPY ELN field. This costs the Customer a standard msg charge for each copy.
Country Code - For International. The first three digits in the dial code. Each country has a three digit identifier .
Cover Page - Is a single page placed before your document used to introduce or personalize the fax. Cover pages usually include unique recipient information for each fax destination based on data in your list and system information (e.g., date, time sent, number of pages). Cover pages are stored in the EasyLink System and are added to your document automatically by the EasyLink System when you initiate the broadcast.
.CSV - Is a "comma-separated values" text-only ASCII file format. This file type consists of fields that are separated by a comma (e.g., NUMBER, NAME, COMPANY). Fields that contains a comma must be enclosed within quotes so as not to be mistaken as a field delimiter. Broadcast List Manager gives you the ability to import information from and export information to .CSV-formatted files.
Custom IDR Program - An IDR program made for special circumstances that are not listed in the menu on barrow.
Customer Name - Is the name registered at EasyLink that identifies your EasyLink account. Special customer requirements may result in more than one registered customer name.
Cutoff Time - Primarily developed for ARX Customer s. A Customer can specify a specific time in which messages they send prior to that time will stop delivery attempts. This option applies to "force" delivery address types, such as ddd, fax, TLX & ITX. Cutoff time takes precedence over Max attempts. Maximum Attempts - specifies how many attempts should be made to deliver - other than standard if OCC/NC/DER condition. If Customer uses extended retry option (manually or system generated) this takes precedence over maximum attempts.
