Technical Support Engineer - Associate

LOCATION: Piscataway, NJ

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Technical Support Engineer maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs corporate computer networks, systems, hardware, and peripherals.  Supports and maintains user account information including rights, security and systems groups.  Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, resolves software and hardware related problems.  Relies on instructions and follows pre-established guidelines to perform job functions and responsibilities.  Required to exercise independent judgement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITES:

  • Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals (laptop/desktop/PBX support).
  • Investigates a user problem, identifies the root cause, determines possible resolution techniques, tests and implements solutions.
  • Interprets technical material in books, journals, or manuals and applies to work scenarios as required.
  • Acts as first level troubleshooting for end users, networks, systems, and applications.
  • Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems.
  • Supports and maintains user account information including rights, security, and systems groups.
  • Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.
  • Provides training and technical assistance/orientation for new employees.
  • Acts as consultant to computer users.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience (2+ years).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work load and tasks to effectively meet established deadlines.
  • Able to exercise independent judgement.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of computer hardware systems (e.g., IT systems; network cards; servers).
  • Knowledge of Windows 98, XP, 2000, 2003, and Vista operating systems.
  • Knowledge of computer software (e.g., network administration tools; imaging software).
  • Knowledge in the MS suite of Office products.
  • Basic Knowledge of Active Directory.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve difficult problems within current range of knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of PBX systems to add/remove voice mail and extensions.
  • Ability to write clear and accurate documentation.
  • Well-organized individual.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (nights and weekends) for maintenance and troubleshooting as requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to articulate clearly and conduct oral presentations.
  • Ability to travel via automobile and/or airplane.
  • Ability to view video display terminal images < 18” away from face for extended period of time – up to four (4) hours at a time.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and telephone.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time – up to four (4) hours at a time.
